Visual Culture Art Education (VCAE) Blog Posting

Visual Cu lture Art Education (VCAE)  Blog Posting: In your own words, what does Visual Culture mean to you, how would you define it? Visual Culture is the collection of imagery that we as a society hold in regard as important. What are the most important things discussed that are still relevant today in regards to Art Education and Visual Culture? I think the idea of sharing personal experiences with students was an important issue discussed. Because not only can students "learn from your mistakes", I think this also helps ground you as a human to your students.  Have you heard of "Zines" before?  Yes, they're frequently talked about and respected in the photography community. I actually own a few, including a great book called "Making Stuff and Doing Things" which is a collection of zines.  What do you think about the Zine Library? I think its a good idea, they show an excerpt of a culture, traditionally of alternative group, which wil

W9 Digital Portfolio Adobe InDesign Videos Blog Posting

W9 Digital Portfolio  Adobe InDesign Videos Blog Posting For each video, what was discussed that  you think will be the most helpful in creating your Digital Portfolio: Video 1.) How to create a new colour swatch and mix your own CYMK values, as well as how to later go in and edit these values. Video 2.) How to use Adobe Bridge and filter and sort images, which I believe that information is easily transferred over to Adobe Lightroom as far as filtering and sorting goes. Video 3.) How to create page transitions, and the important difference in an interactive PDF and a regular PDF. What challenges did you encounter while creating your portfolio  and how did you over come them? My main  challenge with this assignment was getting to sections, such as the Artist Statement, or the Teaching Philosophy, and getting stuck because I wasn't sure what to say for those sections, and to overcome that I decided to just make everything a place holder and focus all my

InDesign Video Blog Posting

InDesign Video Blog Posting What is InDesign? InDesign is an Adobe Platform used to create different print and digital media. Creating a New Document: You can use free templates to start a new document in the Document Dialog Box. Add Text to Frames: You can use the type menu to fill a text frame with place holder text, this could be useful to see how the formatting is affected by different choices. Selecting and Editing Text: The Paste Without Formatting selection allows you to copy text from an outside source and paste the dialog while having the formatting match your surrounding text. Working with Character Styles: The ability to import other character styles that have been pre-made. Working with Paragraph Styles: The ability to create different text styles and be able to apply that text style easily wherever desired.
Week 7 Video  "Who is my audience?" My audience for this newsletter is mainly targeted towards students, but my goal is to keep it professional enough so that it still communicates my values as a teacher to the parents of those students.  "What is my message?" My message in this newsletter is to highlight who I am as a teacher, to introduce me, my work, and my values.  Video 1: The different commands such as Command D to drop in images, and the use of paragraph styles to easily format text to match across the entire newsletter. Video 2: The ability to wrap text, and honestly just what wrapped text even looks like because I didn't know before this video. Video 3: How to fit an image on a page without distorting it or drastically changing the scale. Video 4: The Properties and Pages panel to navigate the pages and impact their style and layout. 1. Do you think creating a classroom newsletter is an effective way to commun
Albright Knox Closing Weekend 1.  Questions From the Family Activity Sheet for the Exhibit- Which installation did you like best? Why? If you were asked to choose one of the shapes you saw today to represent you, which one would it be? Why? Did your shadow change any of these works of art? How? I'm not sure of the specific name of the piece, but I enjoyed the piece that was projected horizontally onto the wall that was moving. I think I enjoyed it more than the rest because of the movement element. Though each piece inspires the viewer to move throughout it, this one added another element of demonstrated control over the medium, and what the piece itself accomplishes. It doesn't leave the interaction all up to the viewer.  In regards to the Gallery Expansion: 3. How do you think the closure of the AK Gallery will impact arts in the city as it is closed for two years during the renovation (reopens January 2022)? I think it will put more of a focus on smaller galleries
Portfolio Creation Process What do you think about the process of creating your portfolios? I thoroughly enjoyed this project. Though I will admit that it was sometimes stressful to try and get them done in time, but I believe that to be more due to my enthusiasm for the project and having a vision that was possibly above my skill level. Overall I thought this was a valuable project and I enjoyed getting Jamie's feedback as well as my peers to find out what was working and was could use some improvement.  What is your opinion about the the tools - comparing InDesign to Website (Wix or Wordpress)? I enjoyed InDesign and Wix both about the same level. They are both great programs that each have their specific challenges, but are rather successful in their own right. However, I found Wordpress to be incredibly difficult to use and transfer the same aesthetic from my print portfolio over to my website, which is why I decided to completely scrap the work I had done on Wordpres

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator For this assignment we were asked to talk about the most important facts from each video. In the first video I felt the most important information shared was the explanation of a vector and how it is different from other images. For the subsequent reading I felt the most interesting information/relevant to my use was the preset options for document size and that there are mobile presets for Apple products. For the next video I felt the most useful piece of information was the ability to have multiple artboard on one (giant) canvas, as well as how to easily navigate between them. For the next reading, I believe the most helpful tip shared was the way of changing the number of sides for using the live polygon tool.  For the brush stroke video I felt the most useful information was that you can alter the appearance of already defined paths using the brushstroke tool. Overall I feel like all of these videos and reading were very valuable for someone just learning Illus
